The Cutlass is the Close-Range weapon of the Pirate. It is quick and punishing against unarmored opponents but its low damage leaves it a poor choice against armored opponents and a better option would be the Pike or Boarding Pike.

A slightly-curving blade, with a grip usually wrapped in leather, and with a “basket” hilt. Cutlasses were kept short, for fighting below decks; they were used for slashing and, occasionally, stabbing.
